Friends of the Plano Public Library is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to supporting Plano libraries. Its mission is to serve as an advocate in developing, maintaining, and improving public library resources, services, and facilities for all patrons. Friends also support PPLS through fundraising activities and events.
Members promote Plano Libraries and donate many hours to host a variety of programs including the annual Friends Book Sale. Funds raised are reinvested in the libraries. Friends donated more than $90,000 to the Plano Public Library System (PPLS) in 2008.
Friends donated $50,000 for adult DVDs, CDs, and audio books. Presenting the check to Plano Mayor Pat Evans (right) are Erin Dougherty, Chris Parr, Jenny Song, and Fred Frawley.
$15,000 was also given to PPLS for world language materials and $25,000 for children’s media.Lobby Sales
Year-round, gently used books and magazines are for sale in all Plano Public Library lobbies. You’ll want to check back regularly as new stock is donated frequently, and often recent books and magazines can be found. Hardbacks sell for $3, paperbacks for $1-$2 and magazines for $.25.
